About Izzy

Izzy Johnston is the Lead Developer at PublicStuff, a company developing a 311-like request management system for small to mid-size municipalities. She is responsible for all mobile development, database management, front-end development, and data analytic algorithms.

She believes firmly that people should be in charge of their own information. In a world where nearly all the information we receive is digital or was digital at some point, knowing the languages and processes of data transfer and storage are essential to understanding information. With this conviction, much of her work focuses on education and the creation of tools that allow people to learn about new digital mediums of knowledge creation, transfer and storage.

She has over seven years of instructional experience in software and languages and over 12 years of coding experience. Currently, her work focuses on Android and iPhone applications and back end website design. She is well versed in HTML, CSS, XML, PHP, Javascript, Java, Objective C, C++, iOS, and Android OS.

Izzy Johnston is also a Visiting Professor at SILS. She has her Master's in Information and Library Science from Pratt Institute with a focus on information architecture and adult interaction with new media. In her time at Pratt, she has created the Introduction to Information Technology Workshop Series. The semester long series features workshops on different types of software or technology used by the library world today.

She also spends her spare time teaching PHP, MySQL, and mobile app development courses for Girl Develop It, and working with the awesome Developers for Good.
